World
Heart Day 2007 was celebrated with great
enthusiasm all over kerala on 30th September 2007.
Efforts to spread the message of world Heart Day
began one month ago.Banners conveying the message
of World Heart Day were displayed at over hundred
different places across the state. Public education
programmes stressing on preventive cardiology.
“Health heart walks” and free health
check up camp were organized by CSI members in
different towns and cities.These activities received
wide coverage through the press and visual media
and as well as appreciated by one and all.
Activities at the state
headquarters
CSI Kerala chapter organized
a meeting cum public awareness programme at Kerala
Heart House, Kochi. The function was inaugurated
by Mr. Sebastain Paul, MP and Mr. Babu, MLA presided
over the function. Senior cardiologist Dr. A.K
Abraham read out the World Heart Day message.
CSI state president P.P Mohanan, Vice president
Dr. K.K Haridas and state secretary Dr. P.K Asokan
were instrumental in organizing this function
which was attended by all members of the executive
committee and over 200 members from the public.
This was followed by a public education programme
and “Walk for healthy Heart”. Free
health check up including blood investigations,
Lipid profile, ECG and BMI estimation was conducted
for the public.
Similar walk was arranged by
Dr. George Thayyil. Cooking classes highlighting
Low fat preparations and painting competitions
for children were held by Kerala Heart Foundation.A
health check up camp was organized by CSI members
at Lakeshore hospital, Kochi.
Activities at Calicut
A massive walk was organized
at Calicut with corporation Mayor Mr. M Nhaskaran
as chairman and Dr. K.K Kunhali as coordinator
and several senior CSI members as organizing committee
members. Over 2000 people participated in the
walk which was followed by an interactive question
and answer session. Questions raised by the public
Pertaining to heart diseases were answered by
a panel of doctors including CSi members (Dr.
K. Venugopal, Dr. Krishnan Namboothiri, Dr. S.
Nandakumar, Dr. K. Kunhali). Cardiac exhibitions
for public, quiz competitions for students and
free health check-up were organized by CSI members
in different hospitals of the city.
Activities at Trivandrum
Dr. K. Suresh, HOD, Trivandrum
Medical College organized a health camp. Dr. Vijayaraghavan
from KIMS held a preventive Cardiology camp followed
by a talk on increasing incidence of heart disease
in women. Dr. Bahuleyan addressed IMA members
and Dr. Bharat Chandran and Dr. George Koshy held
education programme and camps. Dr. Tiny Nair organized
a seminar on Diabetes and heart disease. Dr. Sivasankaran
conducted a health education programme for resident
association
Activities at other towns
Dr. Tharakan, Dr. Zulfikar Ahammed
and Dr. Sivasankaran participated at a CME organized
at Kollam in connection with world Heart Day.
Dr. R. J Manjuran organized a health check-up
camp with free ECG, Sugar and Cholesterol checkup
at Pushpagiri. This was followed by a talk for
the public on prevention of heart disease.
